Advice from Johan Gimonprez 2026
Subject: A Very Humble Request
Me: Hi Johan,
I believe you are one of the most interesting filmmakers and conceptual artists working today. Would you consider giving me a research question of which I could dedicate myself to for the next 3-6 months. I would take this very seriously. Please consider.
warmly,
Johan Gimonprez: To me
Hi Mary Kate,
Well, this would be one sort of humble response, one I plucked from Alice (the one who fell upside down the rabbit hole), answering the hookah smoking caterpillar: “Who in the world am I? That’s the great puzzle! I don’t know who me is….” It’s a research question that will keep myself going for the next years, namely what is ‘the nature of mind’, the focus of my next film under the worktitle: “Tea with ET.” Something went completely wrong when we separated mind from the world, and I believe it’s the greatest fallacy we’re in right now. The loss of relation…
We asked the question already to neurologist Raymond Tallis: “why cannot we tickle ourselves?” See here: ---

Bill!!!
Hi! Fitting we should be corresponding via email !!! Sorry to hear about your phone.
I once had a phone stolen in Austin. Upon realizing it had been taken I sent hundreds of texts begging and pleading for it to be returned. Two days later I received a call from a man who said he had found it and agreed to sell it back to me. I bargained him down to twenty bucks and we made plans to meet in the P.Terry's parking lot at sunset. Phone in hand he arrived and emerged from a grey minivan. I pulled a crisp bill from my pocket and he reached for my precious black brick from his car door. When the swap concluded I thanked him for giving me my life back–virtual reality was all I had in those days–and he said "Yeah, whatever." He then walked over to the P.Terry's drive through and ordered a double cheeseburger and a large coke. He turned and winked at me before passing the crisp bill through the glowing drive-in window. It was a happy ending for both of us.
Flyer is going well! We are adding bands names now, and then corn and I are going to try and print today or tomorrow afternoon. I'm excited too!! Do you have any other names for Zine tabling we should reach out to?!
Monday at 5:30?
Warmly,
Mary Kate
